Eph6:1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
Someone asked me if the early Apostles had a spiritual father. I replied that Jesus was. The twelve disciples had a direct contact with the master and their ministry blossomed. Reading through the bible, I discovered that men and women of exploits submitted themselves to genuine spiritual leadership. Those that don't have spiritual fathers would lack the feather to fly.
Paul was Timothy's spiritual father, Elisha had a father in Elijah, Joshua had a Moses. Great destinies need spiritual midwives (spiritual parents); someone has been to where you haven't been to. Someone has done what you are doing or about to do. There is nothing new under the sun, there are only new approaches to doing what has been done.
A genuine spiritual parent won't boss you around, he would be a mentor and not a tormentor. I've heard so called spiritual fathers making monetary demands from their sons, that's slavery. Though you have a responsibility to sow into the life of your spiritual parent regularly but the concern of a genuine spiritual parent is the conformity of your life into the image of his son and the fulfilment of God's purpose for your life.
Father, I receive grace to connect with my spiritual parent in Jesus name.
