CORRECTION AND THE ROD

January 24, 2016 · Lanre Oyeleke · 2 views

Proverbs23:13 Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die. 14 Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.

Recently, I was discussing with two women. One of them is a disciplinarian and wouldn't take nonsense from his kids. She reminded me of how my mother would correct me when I was a young lad. Those days, my mum didn't spare the rod at all, after beating me, she would tell me to say thank you. Thereafter, she would open the scriptures to me and teach me the bible.

Today, we have parents that cannot control or correct their children. Some may even say that they don't believe in beating an erring child. Well, the scriptures made it clear that folly is bound in the heart of a child and it is only the rod of discipline that can cure that folly.

Teenage delinquency is on the rise and children are fast losing it. The things we considered as taboo in our time are things that children are taking glory in and parents are looking at them without correcting them. Eli failed as a parent and he died because of his laizez-faire attitude to child upbringing. God is expecting more from you.

Before applying the rod, correct first and if correction isn't taken, apply the rod. It won't kill.

Action point

Father, I receive grace to train my children in the way of the Lord In Jesus name. Amen
