FAST WITH DISCRETION Pt.4

January 21, 2016 · Lanre Oyeleke · 2 views

Prov2:11 Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:

Another issue in fasting that is worthy of giving attention is the issue of duration in fasting. How long is good enough for fasting? Did the bible recommend a specific duration? Well, a cursory look at the scriptures tells us plainly that God didn't tell us the duration we should fast.

Some believe that if it is not up to 40days, it is a failed exercise.

Kenneth E. Hagin of blessed memory was a great man of God when he was alive and till date, his ministerial impact is still felt in the Charismatic circle. He said he doesn't fast for more than 3 days consecutively. Some of you will wonder how a great man of God of that calibre wouldn't fast for more than 3 days. I was in a sunday school fast where the teacher said pastors at certain level in ministry should be fasting days marathon. That's extreme.

The bible fast is the type that subdues the flesh and makes the spirit-man come alive. Since the bible didn't give a specific duration, what should determine your fasting duration are:

(1) The leading of the Spirit

(2) Don't stop the fast until your flesh is subdued and the spirit-man is fully active. For some, this may take 3 days, while for others it may take 7 days or more. Your fasting should produce a better you spiritually and until that is achieved, don't stop. These are the determinants of fasting duration.

Action point

I activate kingdom sense in me to fast productively In Jesus name. Amen
