Sometime ago, I boarded a vehicle going to Ibadan, the largest city in west africa. Some minutes after we left the park, the driver parked his vehicle beside the road to urinate. As he was about opening the door, a bike man almost got hit. The bike man stopped and cursed him saying, "as you go, you will not return". Then he spat on the floor to seal his declaration.
When I saw that, I became calm. Those that sat at the back did not hear what he said. Instead of shouting "blood of Jesus" hysterically as some would do, I simply canceled his statements in the name of Jesus and told myself, "I am the saving grace of this driver". Then, I arranged myself to sleep very well on that journey. I slept till we got to Ibadan. No fear, just peace of mind all through.
Isaiah 26:3 says, "You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you".
How you react to issues is a pointer to your level of faith and understanding about the finished work of Christ on the cross. Some could have disembarked from the vehicle claiming a badluck or spell has been cast on that vehicle. Some will even come up with "my spirit is not releasing me to continue the journey".
As spiritual as some of these things sound, most times, they come from the standpoint of fear and lack of internal peace. When a people are not having peace and rest in the finished work of Christ on the cross, the sight of an ordinary cockroach will look like a spiritual attack to them.
Hebrew 4:3 says, "For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world".
I have seen people who enter into prayer mode the moment they see a cockroach or wallgecko. They just become hyper and may even start speaking in tongues because of harmless creatures. What a pity! When others are sleeping, they are awake for fear of harm. This is not God's plan.
The power on our side is far greater than the power of the enemy( 1Jn4:4). We have authority to trample over serpents and scorpions( referring to demons) and we can cast them out with one word of command( Mark 16:17, Luke 10:19). Isn't that something to cherish and celebrate?
The day you understand what Christ did for you on the cross and how he dealt with Satan on the cross, you will have rest of mind. If your mind is stayed in him and his finished work, your peace is guaranteed. Walking in the knowledge of what Christ has done on the cross is thr guarantee for a life of peace and joy.
