Recently, I began to ruminate on how people (christians inclusive) use social media in a way that doesn't glorify God. Then I concluded that we need social media education at this point. Many are caught in the web of misuse already.
What is suppose to be a blessing is fast becoming a curse in our generation. The social media is one of the best tools for evangelism, mission mobilization/awareness, socializing in a way that glorifies God, education, advertisment and other things that can benefit God's kingdom and humanity. Unfortunately, the opposite is happening today.
As an individual, the social media should not be used to capture intimate moments with your spouse and to expose your private life to the public. We don't need to know everything that is happening in your life via social media. We don't need to see you and your wife sleeping in your bedroom or on the bed in the hotel room. You are not an actor.
Some families would have remained as one but for improper social media exposure. They update the public about everything going on in their family. The social media commentators and bloggers help them to heat up little things and this escalate into something gargantuan.This is common to celebrities.
Those who bring their family issues on social media rarely have good marriages. Those who keep their family life away from social media seem to have a stable family life because they can manage issues without public interference and divergent perception from the media commentators.
You don't always have to display family time out, vacations, new houses and cars on social media. These things can expose you to attacks(spiritual and physical). It makes you a soft target. Not everyone is happy with your progress.
You don't know what people have in mind. Sometimes, their evil imagination is attractive. That is why Paul talked about casting down imaginations. This works both ways. It is not a misnomer when we pray against evil imagination. What you keep as a secret cannot be exposed to the evil imagination of wicked men.
A notorious kidnapper once confessed that one of the ways they hunt their victims is to check their sociala media timeline for what they display. Those who display luxury are their targets and they start hunting for them till they get them.
Use your social media page as a platform of edification, evangelism, nation building and sane thought expression. Let it be a place where you promote the kingdom and re shape culture.
