TWO MASTERS ONE SERVANT ?

June 21, 2019 · Lanre Oyeleke · 2 views

Matthew 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. KJV

Sometimes ago, I sang a gospel song in the hostel. My room mate heard the song and called my attention to how far the composer of that song had backslid. I responded by telling him that the young man got lost in the world because of money. I looked at today's world, I noticed that many people have turned money to a demi god. They do all they do including preaching&teaching because of money.

It is sad that there are people who wouldn't work in God's vineyard until a fee is reached. There are evangelists who would organize crusades to raise money not because of souls. I once heard about an evangelist who shut down his crusade on the third day out of a five days crusade programme because he didn't make money as expected. What about ministers who charge per hour to preach? Jesus knew the power of mammon, He saw how men were money-driven in his days and he saw how they were enslaved to mammon. He raised the question in the text above to drive home a point.

Surely, no man can serve God and mammon together. If you're money driven in all your decisions, you'll miss the essence of service and lose your relationship with God. Learn to see money as a servant; you cannot serve two masters and be loyal equally. Money is a bad master but a good servant.

Action point

Father, deliver me from mammon In Jesus name.
