EMOTIONS VERSUS SCRIPTURAL TRUTH

May 27, 2026 · Lanre Oyeleke · 15 views

Psalms 119:89 *For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven*

Sometime ago, I got into a discussion with a man on the issue of marriage and child bearing. I made it clear that it is wrong for a man to impregnate another woman aside his wife who is still trusting God for the fruit of the womb. He objected to that strongly and said, "so, the man should not have a child in life"?

He invested his emotions in that discussion failing to look at what the scriptures says. To him, it is a wicked thing to say a man should not step out of a fruitless marriage. He felt I was not humane in my submission but what he failed to realize is that God's word is supreme over whatever we feel about life issues. God's word says it is adultery but he sees it as helping himself.

Let's flip the discussion this way: what If it is the man that have fertility issues, will he permit the woman to go have sex outside so she can be pregnant for another man all because she wants to have a child? Most men won't take that from any woman.

The bible says, *"Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity*"( 2 Tim 2:19).

The foundation of God is sure and it is revealed to us in the bible. We don't become emotional about life's situations and circumstances at the expense of truth, I mean biblical truth. The reason there is large scale compromise in the body of Christ today is because we have become emotional against revealed truth in scriptures.

For instance, If a preacher is clearly wrong in certain practices and doctrine, some people who knows the truth written in the bible will follow such a preacher in his errors claiming "God is using him powerfully. If God is against his lifestyle and doctrine, how come miracles are still happening in his life and ministry"? That is plain emotional outburst not a commitment to scriptural truth.

*We forget so soon that gifts can operate strongly in the life of a backskider. Also, we fail to realize that manifestation of gift is not necessarily a divine endorsement of the preacher's lifestyle. Unfortunately, when people invest so much emotions into followership, their loyalty to the bible wanes. This is the problem we have in the body of Christ today*.

Dearest,  we don't serve God emotionally at the expense of truth. Our service and followership starts with a commitment to His truth not our emotions. How we feel about certain issues and situations may not align with scriptures but we must stay committed to the truth revealed in scriptures.

When faced with life issues, the question should be, what does the bible say on this issue not how do I feel.

Action point

Father, I receive the grace to stay committed to biblical truth in Jesus name.
