Colossians 2:6 *And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him*.
Recently, I taught on the subject of backsliding in a bible study meeting where I shared with my listeners on the possibility of backsliding If one does not stand rooted in Christ.
I shared the story of Chuck Templeton (a contemporary of Billy Graham) with my audience. The first time I heard about him was when I read Steve Farrar's book titled, "Finishing Strong". He was a powerful evangelist in the 1940s&1950s. His venues for crusades were packed full.
However, he went from being an evangelical preacher into being an agnostic and finally atheism. Before his death, he wrote a book titled: Farewell to God. He died an atheist at the age of 86. Could we say he made it to heaven having denied the existence of God?
One stark truth we must accept is that anyone who stops following Christ no longer have a place with him. He is not pleased with backsliders.
Hebrews 10:38 says, *"And my righteous ones will live by faith. But I will take no pleasure in anyone who turns away*".
The race to heaven is not something to stop halfway. It is a long journey with a finish line. The erroneous teaching that says once a man confesses Christ, he will get to heaven even If he turns back is totally unbiblical.
Jesus says, *"And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God*"( Luke 9:62 KJV).
If Jesus says those who look back are not fit for His kingdom, who are we to say otherwise? In trying to sound nice and show the goodness of God, some have strayed into teachings that permits backsliding.
*We must abide in Christ to reign with Him*.
Dearest, heaven is not for those that started the race and walked out. Heaven is for those who started and follow until the end. For such is eternal life guaranteed.
Matthew 24:13 says, *"But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved*".
Father, I receive the grace to stand and follow you till the end in Jesus name.
