NOT TO BE ABUSED

Acts 1:8 *But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth*”

I heard the story of a preacher who was attacked spiritually on the crusade ground. Due to the attack, his interpreter fell, some of his team members had twisted limbs.

Angrily, he declared that whoever was behind the attack would die. The fetish priest who was behind the attack felt abnormal. He told those that were close to him that the preacher was responsible for his malady and he died. The news got to this preacher that the fetish priest had died. Some of the villagers became angry so they banished him from the village.

When he got to his hotel room, the Holy Spirit asked him, "what have you done"? He explained everything to Him. Thereafter, the Holy Spirit told him he abused power. He told him the purpose of power is to save not to kill. He made him realize that he killed whom should be saved.

The next day, he told his team to mount crusade equipment. No single soul came. He declared from the rostrum that everyone who was instrumental to his banishment will accept Jesus someday and he left the village.

Ten years after, a denominational church in that village invited him to preach in one of their meetings. He asked If anyone recognized him but none could. He narrated the event of ten years prior and they all remembered.

Surprisingly, some of those who banished him from the village had become pastors and they were in that meeting. If he hadn't abuse power, probably, the fetish priest may have become another powerful evangelist like him because his final declaration came to pass.

*The power of God is not to be abused. When God gives power, what He has in mind are souls of men. He thinks of how His power will be used as a tool for bringing souls into His kingdom*.

In Luke chapter 9 vs 54, when the people did not welcome Jesus, James and John said: *"... “Lord, should we call down fire from heaven to burn them up?*” The bible says, *"But Jesus turned and rebuked them*"( vs 55).

Why do you think Jesus rebuked them? Because the purpose of power is not to kill those he came to save. The purpose of power is salvific not to destroy. Beware of words that comes out of your mouth when you are angry.

Some pastors are known for cursing on the pulpit when they are angry. It is their stock-in-trade. They claim to have Elijah anointing yet they forget what Jesus said when the sons of Zebedee wanted to call down fire.

If you use the power of God to kill every enemy and those who offend you, who will be left for you to win unto the Lord?

Action point

The purpose of power is to spread the gospel not to curse or kill with it.
