FUNDAMENTAL DOCTRINES OF THE CHRISTIAN FAITH Pt.3

July 06, 2026 · Lanre Oyeleke · 176 views

2Timothy2:19 *"Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness*”.

*II.DOCTRINE OF CHRIST'S DEITY*

Another fundamental doctrine of the church is the doctrine about the deity of Christ. What this doctrine simply says is that Jesus is fully God. This doctrine is not man-made, it is revealed in several places in scriptures. Muslims, Jehovah Witness, Mormons and other sects do not agree with us on this.

Jesus in John 10:30 says, *“I and the Father are one*". This is Jesus claiming deity. How did I know? The reaction of Jews after He made that statement confirms it all. They tried to stone Him saying: *“You, a mere man, claim to be God*” (John 10:33). They knew what He said was an affirmation of His deity.

In John 8:58, Jesus declared, *“Very truly I tell you . . . before Abraham was born, I am!*” This is a reference to Exodus 3:14 when God revealed Himself as “I AM.” The Jews who heard Jesus’ statement understood that He was applying God’s name to Himself. They responded by taking up stones to kill Him for blasphemy, believing they were following the Mosaic Law in Leviticus 24:16.

Let's look at another commonly quoted scripture, John1:1: *"In the beginning was the Word( Jesus), and the Word(Jesus) was with God, and the Word(Jesus) was God*".( Emphasis mine). JESUS IS GOD.

Paul, a foremost apostle in the early church validated the deity of Christ saying, *"be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood*” (Acts 20:28). Who bought the church with His own blood? Jesus Christ. And this same verse declares that God purchased His church with His own blood. Therefore, Jesus is God.

*If Jesus is not God, what will be the consequence*?

If He is not God, His death would not have been sufficient to pay the penalty for the sins of the world (1 John 2:2). It takes the blood of God(Jesus) to wipe away the sins of the world.

The blood of a fallen man cannot cleanse and take away the sins of mankind. As the Holy One, Jesus is sinless and could take on the sins of the world (2 Corinthians 5:21). As God in human flesh, He could die and be resurrected, proving His victory over sin and death.

Anyone who doesn't believe in the deity of Christ cannot be saved.

Father, thank you for saving me through the blood of Jesus Christ.
