Acts 19:2 *“Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” he asked them. “No,” they replied, “we haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit*” (NLT)
*THE PERSON OF THE HOLY SPIRIT* (a)
The understanding some charismatics have about the Holy Spirit is not in perfect alignment with scriptures. Some see him as an impersonal force that causes "chaos" in our meetings.
Strictly, some have a performance view about him. These innacurate understanding about the Holy Spirit robs them of the benefit of fellowship. The essence of the Spirit in our lives is relationship. God sent Him to the earth so we can relate with Him.
*The Holy Spirit is a person*.
In the bible, the pronoun "He" is used when talking about the Holy Spirit. If He were an impersonal force, "It" would have been used but as a proof of His personality, "He" was used, denoting His personality.
The moment you realize and understand that He is a person, your relationship with Him becomes deeper and meaningful. Nobody relates with "It" because "It" cannot talk, think, or reveal things.
He is not an impersonal force, wind, rain, fire or dove. Those are just symbols to represent Him but much more, He is a person with attributes that makes relationship possible. Let's examine some of His personal attributes.
i. *He knows God's mind*
1 Corinthians 2:10-11 says *"No one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit*"(NLT).
The Holy Spirit knows what is in God's mind on every issue. It takes one with a personality to know something or someone. Since He knows God's mind, He can reveal His mind to us.
When you get to that point in your life when you don't know what to do because God's mind is unknown, you can simply ask the Holy Spirit to reveal what is on the mind of the Father to you.
He has a personality that knows and can reveal things. It is only a person with knowledge that can share it.
1 Corinthians 2:10 says, *"These things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God*".
He is the agency through which God reveals things to us. Revelation is not for prophets alone. It is the covenant right of every child of God. That is one of the reasons God sent the Holy Spirit- to reveal the deep things of God to us.
In areas where truth is concealed, you can talk to the Spirit and ask Him to reveal God's mind to you. He is our trusted ally.
Sweet precious Holy Spirit, thank you for work in my life. Now I know you are a divine personality that knows God's mind and can reveal things. Reveal the truth to me about (...mention your issues) in the name of Jesus Christ.
