THE GRACE OF GOD Pt.5

"For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ."_ — *John 1:17*

WHAT MAKES GRACE DISTINCT - INDWELLING OF THE SPIRIT (c)

Under Law, the Holy Spirit's experience was like using a neighbourhood generator. The PHCN takes light, someone puts on the generator for the church program. The power comes UPON the building for a few hours for a specific task, then it is switched off and returned. People sit in darkness again until next time.

Under Grace, the Holy Spirit is like being directly connected to a permanent power grid with your own meter inside your house. The power does not come and go. The source now lives INSIDE your house. The light is always on, because the Power Giver has moved in. You don't pray for power to come; you learn to walk in the consciousness that Power lives in you.

One of the greatest shifts between the Old Covenant and the New Covenant is not just _what_ God does, but _where_ God lives.

In the law,  the Holy Spirit Came UPON People Temporarily For A Task. In the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit was like a visitor, He came, empowered a person for a specific assignment, and could leave when the assignment was over or when the person disobeyed.

He came UPON *Samson* for strength, but left him when he toyed with sin. (Judges 16:20). He came UPON *King Saul* to prophesy and to lead, but departed from him when he became disobedient (1 Samuel 16:14). Even David, after his sin with Bathsheba, cried in terror, _“Take not thy holy spirit from me.”_ — Psalm 51:11 — because he had seen what happened to Saul.

People had to pray for the Spirit to come. They had no assurance that He would stay. His presence was *selective, temporary, and external.*

Under grace,  the Holy Spirit Lives INSIDE every believer permanently. The Holy Spirit stopped being a visitor and became a resident. The moment you believed in Christ, He did not just come UPON you, He came to live INSIDE you permanently.

> _“Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you...?”_ — *1 Corinthians 6:19*

> _“...having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance...”_ — *Ephesians 1:13-14*

In Grace, His ministry is four-fold:

- *As SEAL:* He is God's stamp of ownership on you. You are secured. God has marked you as His own forever except you walk away from Him.
- *As COMFORTER:* He is not beside you to visit; He is inside you to abide. In your loneliness, weakness, and trials, He whispers, “I am here.”
- *As TEACHER:* In the Law, people needed prophets to tell them God's mind. In Grace, the Teacher lives inside the student. He guides you into all truth. — John 14:26
- *As EMPOWERER:* He does not just give you power for a task; He gives you power for living. To overcome sin, to witness, to love when it is hard. — Acts 1:8

We have moved from visitation to habitation. From UPON to WITHIN. From temporary empowerment to permanent indwelling.

Action point

You are not trying to get the Holy Spirit to come. In Christ, He already came — and He will never leave nor forsake you.
