THE FEAR OF THE LORD
I once listened to a preacher who said the new testament believer was not instructed to fear God but to love Him. He said it with so much confidence and authority. I searched my bible to know what it is to fear God and if truly we were told not to fear God as new testament believers. In 2Cor 7:1, apostle Paul enjoined us to perfect holiness in the fear of God. I noticed that his understanding about the fear of God was that of a man that is afraid of God. That's bad. So what does it mean to fear God? The fear of God is having a reverential fear for God.
Anytime you see that phrase 'The fear of God', holy reverence is implied. One vital key that can give you access to divine secret is the fear of God. The man that fears God would seek Him always, love what He loves and hate what He hates. The fear of the Lord makes the believer to walk in an endless flow of revelation. In the book of Daniel chapter 2, King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream but he forgot his dream. He called all his magicians&astrologers to remind him of what he dreamt about but none could. He threatened to kill them all including Daniel.
It took the intervention of Daniel to salvage the situation. He prayed and God revealed the dream of the king to him& he interpreted it. HIs access to the treasury of divine secret was the fear of the Lord. Right from the beginning of the book of Daniel, we saw that he purposed in his heart not to defile himself with the king's meat(Dan1:8) because the king's food was dedicated to idols according to the Babylonian custom. You also can have unrestricted access to the heavenly treasury of secrets if you walk in the fear of God constantly.
