THE NEW TESTAMENT PRIEST

July 10, 2016 · Lanre Oyeleke · 2 views

Heb7:12 And if the priesthood is changed, the law must also be changed to permit it. NLT

Have you ever wondered why there was an old testament order of worship, rules and regulations? Reading through your bible, you may have seen scriptures such as the opening text. Why did God give us a new priest? What happened to the law of Moses? Why are we not killing rams and lamb for sacrifices anymore? Why are we not following the laws God gave Moses strictly?

The answer to these questions are simple. The law made nothing perfect including the priest and comers. The old testament laws were over 600 most of which were divided into: ceremonial laws, moral laws and civil laws. The priest was the custodian of the law and the intention of God was to make her people perfect but the law couldn't achieve the intended perfection. God saw a lot of loopholes in the law, so he sent Christ( another priest) to come as an end to the law (Romans10:4).

Since we are no longer under the law of Moses, we cannot be under that old order of priesthood anymore. Old testament priests were sinners just like their congregants but we have a high priest that is perfect and has given us his righteousness. Glory! We can come boldly to God without any feeling of shame and guilt. Our priest is our advocate with the father and he's making intercession for us without ceasing.

Action point

Father, I thank you because I am under a new high priest that is interceeding for me.
