Gen11:4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
In the history of man, God has never been threatened by the actions of men neither does he need to confuse man even when his intentions are evil and ungodly but permit me to say that the event at the tower of Babel got God and he acted swiftly to ensure that man's ignoble intention didn't come to pass.
For a very long time, I thought that God didn't want the builders at the tower of Babel to build the highest skyscraper in the world that would reach heaven but when I read the scriptures in between lines, I saw that man's ungodly intention was the reason why God scattered the builders of the tower at Babel and confused their language. Their intention was to make a name for themselves and not God.
Anytime you embark on a project to exalt your name and not God's, you risk the Babel treatment. God wants his name to be exalted in everything, he wants his fame and glory to be known not yours. He wants to be seen and not you. It is possible to preach, study, do alms, be a philanthropist,write books,etc just to make a name.
When people see you more than they see God, you have made a name.
I receive grace to ignore every ignoble ambition to make a name for myself In Jesus Name. Amen
