2Chron22:4 "...for they were his counsellors after the death of his father to his destruction".
The story of Rehoboam comes to mind whenever we are discussing a subject matter such as this. He went to meet the elders and they gave him wise counsel on how to run his government. He also consulted with the young men of his age bracket and they gave him the wrong counsel, and the kingdom was divided because he took their counsel.
You have to be careful on who speaks into your life when you need counsel. Counselling can be edifying and it can also be destructive. The content of counsel is what differentiates the two.
A good counsel must align to God's word. You need to be close to the Holy Spirit to receive from heaven unhindered and to also know men who has the right word for you per season.
Sometimes, you need to be directed on who to go meet for counsel. Not every preacher would say the same thing because we all don't operate at the same frequency with the holy spirit. Some are more sensitive than others. Do not seek counsel from unbelievers because it may not be word-based.
As a rule, stay under sound and word-based spiritual leadership (not just those that claim to see visions for everything), you won't miss it.
Father, may I not be counselled into destruction In Jesus name. Amen
