WHEN ANCIENT MEN CRY

June 23, 2015 · Lanre Oyeleke · 2 views

Ezra3:11-12...And all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid...But many of the priests and Levites and chief of the father, who were ANCIENT men, that had seen the first house, when the foundation of this house was laid before their eyes, wept with a loud voice...

After the Babylonian invasion, the temple was destroyed but under Cyrus the king of Persia( their colonial master), he gave them the privilege to rebuild. The youths at that time didn't know the glory and the structure of the former temple. God's glory filled that temple on the day it was commissioned.

When the foundation of the new temple was being laid, the youths who didn't know the former glory of the temple screamed for joy but the ancient men who knew that the new temple was nothing compared to the old began to weep. When you see ancient men or the fathers in the faith weep about what the present generation is glorifying, there's a need to check what went wrong.

I've heard some of our fathers in the faith talk about the mighty move of God in their time, how the choir would sing a simple non-technical song and people would come to the altar asking God for mercy but in our own generation, the choir is waiting for a mighty applause or screams of 'ooo yeaa' during and after ministration. Preachers want to hear 'ride on pastor' but not 'what can do I to be saved'?

These are days where you'll even see people chewing gum to the altar when altar call for salvation is made with applause from the on-lookers whereas those days, people fall under tearful conviction and come to the altar with a penitent heart. These things makes ancient men to cry because they've experienced the real thing and have seen the former glory.

Action point

Father, in the body of Christ world-wide, let there be true revival In Jesus Name. Amen.
