A CHANGE IN DRESSING
One of the results of colonialism is the change in dressing. Though we didn't lose all of our dressing pattern but they successfully redefined to us what it is to dress corporately. Our fore fathers in pre colonial times had their modes of dressing. They had their own definition of what it was to dress corporately and what ought to be for different occasion. However, when the powers from Europe came, they made us wear a shirt on a trouser, put on a suit not considering our weather and tie a rope on our necks so that we can be adjudged as looking corporate. Our fore fathers used ropes to tie things in the farm but the use has been redefined now. In some circles, if you don't wear a suit regardless of the weather condition, they may side line you because you are not looking corporate. Colonial influence still operates in our dressing today.
God's prescription for looking corporate is to dress moderately. God is not changing the dress culture of our various tribes and ethnic affiliations. He is not telling the Igbo man to dress like Hausa neither would he impose on the Fulani to dress like Yoruba. He won't. He loves our diversity. However, God is very interested in the kind of message we pass on to people when we dress. In heaven's dress culture, it is not appropriate to dress in a way that expose nakedness. The primary purpose of dressing is to cover nakedness. God created some parts to be seen and some others to be covered. If you open what should be covered, you maybe tempting others and making them to lust in their minds.
There is a demonic fashion of this world that aims at making people lust. The devil is inventing crazy fashions daily and some Christians are patronizing him. A lady in one of our tertiary institutions confessed that she was an agent sent to introduce different seductive styles of dresses to students. She was in the same level for years until she encountered the delivering power of God. Ladies, cover your cleavages. If God wanted it exposed, he may have put it on your fore head. It is even worse when you wear those tight fitting, short and transparent clothes to church and to the Pastors office for counseling. Don't make another man fall. Woe unto him that makes another man stumble( Luke 17:1). Brothers, look responsible in your dressing. The no belt, sagging and rough looking movement is demonic. Let your looks and hairdo differentiate you from a mad man.When Jesus healed that mad man with legions of demons, one of the transformations the Bible recorded was in his dressing. You can look good without being immodest.
