DECIDE TO BUILD- UPWARD INVESTMENT
I learnt alot from my dad. He got born again in the 70s in a very conservative evangelical movement that believed that building one's house was a sign of carnality. The focus was so much on heaven to the point where nothing else mattered to them including schooling. Some of them took those messages they heard to the extreme. His immediate younger brother who was also in the same church with him told me that they were taught not to have more than N3000 in their bank account so that they won't lose too much money when Jesus come. That generation truly loved the Lord but they don't understand the power of upward investment.
Today, most them suffered for those extremes. As a matter of fact, most of them lived in houses built by unbelievers who told them they must not pray aloud or do house fellowship in their apartment. It was when they saw that it was becoming hard to live freely that they reconsidered their stand on the issue of owning a property. What most of them should have achieved long ago when the economy was good, they are now struggling to get it. Dearest, don't call anywhere 'bush'. If God gives you the opportunity to build, please start now. Decide that you will build gradually. Don't wait for the day you have plenty. If you're residing in government quarters, don't forget that you will retire some day and you'll be given a quit notice. A professor was sent packing from staff quarters years back. He began to cry because he had no where to go, all he had were books. The drivers that parked his loads for him were landlords and they began to make jest of him. That's the folly I've seen in this generation. Cleaners in offices build, but managers are paying rent.
Do you know that you cannot lay claim to a territory spiritually or even physically and decide what happens until you're a landlord? When unbelievers want to take over a territory, they buy properties. Surprisingly, Christians rent from them and they use our monies to preach their gospel. Stop spending on things that has no investment value. When money is in your hands, start thinking of posterity. There are so many reputable estate companies that are selling lands with instalment payment, you can take advantage of that. Don't wait till when you will have N50m to buy land in Lekki or Asokoro. Start small. Those with vision own properties, those that live for today rent. It is better to own than to rent.
