MAKE DECISIONS THAT WILL SHAPE YOUR LIFE Pt. 6

Genesis 18: 19 For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing what is right and just, so that the LORD will bring about for Abraham what he has promised him." NIV

PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR FAMILY

Sometime ago, as I was about stepping out of the house, one of my sons asked, "Is daddy traveling again."? That touched me deeply. Thank God I was not traveling that day. My movement was just within town. I have heard of children whose parents would leave the house for work when they are on bed and would return from work after they have been tucked into their beds by the house help. I have seen how families are living apart even across continents and countries because of career pursuit but they forget that family should be considered first before anything. Preachers are not left out. I heard of a preacher who spent a long time on the mountain. He left his wife and children at home. . By the time he returned, his wife was pregnant for his associate in ministry.

This year, before you make crucial decisions, think about your family first. I am not saying you should not work. I reside in Lagos Nigeria. I know the intensity of the hustling and bustling. However, there must be a conscious effort to create time for your family. It is so bad that some parents don't have weekends to themselves any longer. It is either they are working overtime to earn extra pay or they are off to parties. That's not fair on the children. In recent times, I turned down invitations and engagements because I wanted to be with my family.

The house help should not win the heart of your children. Teachers in school cannot train your children the way you would, they can only try. The curriculum for training your children is with you not with their school teacher. If you achieve the world and lose your family, you may end your life in misery. I know an elderly man who sold the house he laboured to build because of regrets on how his family turned. When he was younger, he abandoned them for work in another town. It was so bad that his wife would go searching for him because of how long he had stayed away from home. Today, none of his children turned out well. In the next 20-30 years from now, how do you want the story of your family to be written? Decide today.
