MAKE DECISIONS THAT WILL SHAPE YOUR LIFE Pt. 10

January 10, 2020 · Lanre Oyeleke · 2 views

2 Tim 2:15 “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

INVEST IN YOUR LIBRARY

Christopher Columbus was on a voyage, when he got to a certain Island, he was hungry and he had no food. He begged the inhabitants of the Island for food but no one acceded to his request. He thought about what he could do to get food. He read in a book that there would be an eclipse of the sun in days to come. He announced to those on the Island that he would cause darkness to cover the land. No one listened to him but when the eclipse happened and there was darkness everywhere. The people rushed to him with food items begging him. They thought he was a god.

He benefitted from the knowledge he had gained by reading. There is a common saying that if you want to hide a vital information from an African, don't put it under the soil neither should you hide it on the tree but if you hide it in a book, he may not see it. They are simply saying that most Africans don't read. Well, I think that is changing gradually. However, there's a need to raise the awareness of developing a reading culture among believers in this part of the world. Apostle Paul was a reader (2 Tim4:13). He had a penchant for acquiring knowledge. I perceived that was why he was able to preach the gospel to the elites in his days.

A wise man said, "study so that you won't be stupid". If you're a preacher, invest in your library. It would reflect in your preaching and teaching. Empty your pocket into your head. One good book can change your life. Do not stop learning, let your library contain books that are relevant to your area of expertise. That way, you can improve and broaden your horizon. You can sit with great minds through their books. You won't be taught everything in school, but you can add the value of knowledge to your life through constant study. In today's world, information and knowledge makes the difference.
