For several years, there has been controversies on whether women should use jewelries, the issue has torn some churches apart and some youths are no longer taking it easy with their Pastors especially those that hold the view that women shouldn't use Jewelries. Most times, those that preach against women adornment quote the scripture above and 1Tim2:9.
What was Peter saying? Was he saying that women shouldn't use Jewelries at all? Well, to answer that question properly, one may read other verses of thesame chapter to discern the intent of the writer. He wasn't expressly saying women shouldn't use it but he was admonishing them that their attention should be on the inward man- the spirit. If a woman is godly, she would first of all build herself spiritually which is the best adornment.
Women have tendencies to focus more on fashion at the expense of their spiritual life. If a woman is decked with expensive jewelries without having a godly character, she would stink. Our attention should be on building a godly life style because that was the principal focus of ancient women in the faith. Beauty without godly character is a disaster going somewhere to happen.
