Years back, I and some brethren decided to preach to street urchins in certain area of Lagos. Also, during my NYSC, I initiated a red light district evangelism targeted at the prostitutes. The way some of us cast away seemingly bad people is alarming; there are churches where ushers would send out those they feel are bad maybe because of their looks. A woman I know attended a very conservative church, as she sat down, those that sat beside her stood up and moved to another roll. She joined them on the other roll and they did same again.
During the crusades of Jesus, it was the notorious people, sinners and the weirdos that came listening to Jesus. If bad people don't come listening to the gospel we preach, who will be saved? Remember that you were a bad man when you received the gospel, imagine that you weren't allowed into the church or the meeting where you received Christ, you may not have been saved.
Let's put salvation first and forget about who they are. I believe that a potent message breathed upon by the Spirit is what would change people not our dogmas or church rules. Jesus said he won't cast away those that come to him (John6:37) so why should we? No man on his own accord can listen to the gospel except by the Spirit. Let the bad boys listen to the gospel, if they come, don't chase them away and if they don't come, take it to them.
