Luke12:15 Then he said, “Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.”
I have come to discover that our values as Christians and as a nation needs a constant re evaluation to be sure that it is in tandem with the bible. The way individual view success would determine how they'll pursue success. Some believe that having plenty money is the true measure of success so people in that category would always run after money.
If a Pastor believes that success in ministry is all about having a large congregation and a large network of branches, such a pastor's pursuit would be to get crowd not minding where they come from. The bible said that your true worth cannot be measured by how much you own. That is one reason we teach people to find purpose and fulfil it because life is measured by the impact we make in people's life not what we acquire.
God is warning us against greed. A greedy man want to have all by all means. A greedy pastor would do everything to steal another man's sheep and extort them. If you see a large church and you adjudge the Pastor as successful, how do we measure a missionary's ministry in the bush with less than 30 members, a failure? It is possible to have a large congregation heading to hell. God doesn't adjudge us as successful as long as greed can be found in our lives.
You and I need value re-alignment.
Father, I receive grace to conquer greed and pursue success in God's own way In Jesus name. Amen
