1 Kings 17:13 Elijah said to her, “Don’t be afraid. Go home and do as you have said. But first make a small loaf of bread for me from what you have and bring it to me, and then make something for yourself and your son. For this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the LORD sends rain on the land.’”
I listened to the testimony of a business mogul here in Nigeria. I was under his seminar years back. He taught on business and entrepreneurship. He also told us about his foray into business. He told us that he attended a party where he saw a leading Pastor. He had been hearing about him but that event gave him the privilege to have a close contact. He quickly looked for money and he found $10,000 in his pocket. He gave it to this revered preacher. This preacher was grateful and he prayed for him that the following year would be better. He said 'Amen'. The following year, this man built 400 filling stations. Just in one year.
Do not underestimate the prayer that comes from the mouth of a genuine man of God when you touch his life through giving. The story of Elijah and the widow of Zarephath is something that would have attracted bad press especially social media rants if it were to be in our day. Some press men would ask for the rationale behind asking a poor widow to cook her last meal for a man of God in an economy where things are not working. The next you will hear is: "Preachers are hungry folks". However, the wisdom of God would always be foolish to men.
The year is fast running out, what have you done for your Pastor or that preacher/teacher/missionary this year? I have always known there's something good attached to giving to a genuine man of God. I have tried it and it works. As a mission inclined believer, do you know the kind of prayers a missionary who feels forgotten would pray for you if you support him with your gifts? I know so many missionaries who abandoned the comfort of city life to reach the unreached in places far from modern realities. It is your scriptural duty to provide for those that teach and share the word with you, Gal6:6, 2Tim5:17.Even if there's no blessing attached to it, your are duty bound to do it. In times of scarcity, the widow of Zarephath launched herself into endless supply by giving to Prophet Elijah. When others were beggarly and barely surviving, she was feasting and flourishing. That can be your testimony.
Prayerfully, give to a minister God is leading you to. Also, this festive season, we have missionaries that are deserving of your generousity.
