CONFORMITY: THE ULTIMATE GOAL

Romans 8:29, *“For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren*”

One day, while driving my children to school, as usual we prayed in the vehicle.  I asked my eldest son what his prayer point was. He said, "I want to become like Jesus". That struck me because I wasn't expecting that from him.

Often, when I ask my children to lead prayer or to make a request, they always pray against death, ask for provision and other physical things they need but this one struck me.

What do you think God's ultimate intention for your life is? To become the wealthiest on earth? Do you think popularity or fame is God's intention for your life? Our prayers often shows we don't know exactly what God desire to make of our lives.

The plan of God revealed in scripture has never changed. God's intention for you and me is to confirm and become like Christ. That is God's ultimate goal for our lives.

The vision of God for you and me is CHRIST. Conformity to the very image of Christ is what God have in mind. The dealings of God in your life is for the purpose of conformity to his image.

The word "Sumorphoo" is the Greek word translated as conform. It means to fashion like another thing. To make a thing look like another image or object.

More than anything else, to conform and become like Jesus in character and conduct is germane to God.

Paul the apostle was deeply concerned about this for the Galatian believers, he prayed thus: "My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you"(Galatians 4:19 KJV).

The desire of Paul to see his spiritual children conform to Christ was a reflection of his personal desire as well.

that I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death (Philippians 3:10 KJV)

Paul was ready to conform to the image of Christ even to the point of dying like He did. That's deep.

To conform and become like Christ, we have to stay in fellowship with Him.

So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image (2 Corinthians 3:18 NLT).

We can only conform to the image of who we fellowship with. If you fellowship with the world and the things of the flesh, you'll become exactly like the world.

Paul advised, "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will" (Romans 12:2 NIV).

Action Point:

Henceforth, let your prayers be: "Father, help me to conform to the image of Christ and become like him in every way in Jesus name. Amen
