The existence of good news shows there is bad news. The components of that bad news is that sin is the greatest problem of mankind and this resulted into death. This death has its ultimate end in the lake of fire which burns with brimstone. This is the final destination of sinners.
However, there is good news which is the exact opposite of the bad news. Just as the bad news has its features, same applies to the good news. There are several reasons the gospel is called good news.
The first reason the gospel is called good news is because instead of eternal death, there is ETERNAL LIFE for those who believe in Jesus Christ.
John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that WHOEVER BELIEVES in him shall not perish but have ETERNAL LIFE" (NIV)
The promise of eternal life with Jesus in heaven is good news. Instead of eternal death in the lake of fire that burn forever, the believer in Jesus will be with Christ forever. No religion promises eternal life. The beautiful thing about eternal life is that it is a gift, it is not worked for.
Romans 6:23(b) says, "...but the FREE GIFT of God is ETERNAL LIFE through Christ Jesus our Lord". How can a loving God offer sinners free gift such as this and they'll still reject it?
It should be noted that eternal life is not just about the unending length of years, it also refers to the quality of life we have received in Christ. While the sinner carries spiritual death around, the believer carries eternal life around. For a believer, eternal life will not start in the future, it is already in him.
The person of Christ is the eternal life we are talking about. John 17:3 is an important passage in this regard, as Jesus prays, “Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.”
Here, Jesus equates “eternal life” with a knowledge of God and of the Son. There is no knowledge of God without the Son, for it is through the Son that the Father reveals Himself to the elect (John 17:6; 14:9).
If your gospel to sinners is devoid of the mention of eternal life, it is no gospel at all. Eternal death is bad news but eternal life through Christ is good news.
