BE A MODEL
Many years ago, i visited the house of a man. When i got there, i noticed his children were running around packing his shoes and belongings into his room. They did not want his visitor to see traces of him being around. When the visitor entered, his children told him that he was not around. Later, the man left. His wife was also in support of that lie. Now, it would be impossible for that man or his wife to teach his children against lying because both of them were liars by example.
Another vital aspect of training is to be a godly model of what you're training your kids to become. Primarily, children learn from what they see you doing than from your words. Don't forget that you are a leader. True leaders are meant to lead by example not by words. No matter how pious you look as a parent, even if you hold a title in your church, your children would end up picking after you. Their interest is in your actions not your words alone. If as a father, you abuse your wife physically, your sons may end up abusing their wives in the future. That's a proven fact.
Research has shown that most marriages are modeled after the marriages of the parents of the children in the marriage. That is why certain vicious cycles( divorce, physical&verbal abuse) continue. As a parent, your words and action must align. One of the major challenges of training children today is modeling. Children all over the world are looking for someone to imitate. If you are a liar, your children would practice lying as a life style. Before you start practicing the principles of biblical parenting, start with your life first. Look at those areas of your life where you are found wanting and make necessary corrections now.
