A vivid contemporary example that parents should emulate is Susan Wesley. She is the mother of John Wesley and Charles Wesley. These are men who shaped the course of history in Christendom. John Wesley became a revivalist and the founder of Methodist church. Charles composed thousands of hymns that we sing today in our various churches. Susan Wesley had 19 children, nine died and she was left with ten.
It was on record that Susan Wesley prayed daily for her children. There are several aspect of your children's life that you must pray about. The very first is the salvation of their soul. No child is born saved, that you're a Christian does not automatically confer salvation on your children. Most children from Christian homes assume they're saved because of their parents.
Parents must consciously pray that their children should experience the salvation of God through Christ. When they grow to the point where they can understand the issue of eternal life and eternal death, teach them but much more than that, pray them into it. They may not be saved through your preaching but could meet Christ through another preacher. Your prayer would prepare the hearts of your children to receive the gospel.
Father, let my children respond to the gospel message in due time In Jesus name.
