1John2:4 If someone claims, “I know God,” but doesn’t obey God’s commandments, that person is a liar and is not living in the truth. 5 But those who obey God’s word truly show how completely they love him. That is how we know we are living in him. NLT
When you attend worship services or probably you find yourself in an atmosphere of intense worship, most likely, you'll see worshippers crying and shedding tears. In most cases, you'll hear some of them say that they're shedding tears because of their love for God. That's fine by me but is that the biblical proof of a genuine love for God?
Some believers hold the belief that shedding tears is a sign of brokenness and genuine love for God but I haven't seen that in my bible till date. According to the scriptures above, genuine love for God can be proven with a life style of total OBEDIENCE to God. Anybody can come under the wave of emotions when good sound of music and instruments are combined. In fact, when I was much younger, I remember watching a lot of people crying during Michael Jackson's concert. Its just emotions at work.
Our emotional display doesn't move God an inch if we are not obeying him. I agree that a broken man may not find it hard to shed tears in worship but the hallmark of a genuine believer is obedience. How much of God's word you obey is how much of God you love. One thing that lovers don't play with is whatever can hurt the other person and that also applies to God.
Your love for God is made manifest in your burning desire to obey God and doing it.
Father, I receive grace to obey you totally In Jesus name. Amen
