James4:13 Look here, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.” 14 How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. 15 What you ought to say is, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.” NLT
Early in my walk with God, I was an avid listener and reader of motivational speakers and books. One of the things I was taught was to set goals and write them down, I was taught to dream and write down how to achieve it. I was taught to plan my life the way I desired it after discovering my potentials and passion. All these I did and pursued but i was proven wrong by God's will for my life.
I was not taught to seek God's will for my life and plan around it by the leading of the Spirit, I was more futuristic without considering the day-to-day plan of God for my life. I am not against goal-setting and dreaming but what I'm against is living life out of God's perfect will instead of walking in it. The writer of the verse above is teaching us to acknowledge the will of God in all we do.
Stop the boast about tomorrow and key into his will for your life. It is better to say 'I will do this or become that tomorrow IF God wills' rather than just make empty boast when you may not live to see tomorrow. The Christian life is hinged on living out the will of our maker and nothing more. It is better to be motivated in his will and by his will rather than just by mere sweet talk.
Father, let your will be done in my life In Jesus name
