WHAT KIND OF FAITH IS THIS?

May 11, 2016 · Lanre Oyeleke · 2 views

Heb11:39 All these people earned a good reputation because of their faith, yet none of them received all that God had promised. NLT

When you read Hebrews 11, you will see the faith exploits of some of our fathers in the faith. We were made to understand that they suffered a lot, they were promised but didn't obtain the promise and yet they obtained a good report from God. That's a paradox. In fact, verses 35-38 said some were sawn asunder, killed and tortured and yet they died without obtaining what was promised.

I have always thought that faith is only applicable for prayers and receiving of answers based on God's word, yes that's true but that's just a one-sided aspect of faith. These heroes of faith redefined faith to mean standing for what you believe without compromise even when it holds no benefit for the now. That was their own definition of faith. Their faith rose in defense of what they believe in the face of death even if God won't rescue them as it was seen in the life of the three Hebrew boys.

Let me ask you, what are you using your faith for? Is it to always ask and receive alone? When you begin to operate with the cross mentality, your faith will not only be used to receive promises (though some of these heroes didn't the receive the promise) but to stand in defense of the truth against compromise. That was what the heroes of faith did and they obtained a good report. Their faith longed for a city that wasn't built with human hands without considering transient pleasures. Use your faith like this.

Action point

Father, I receive grace to Channel my faith into standing for the truth of the gospel In Jesus name. Amen
