THE MASTER OF EVENTS AND CIRCUMSTANCES

Psalms32:8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.

After my first year in the university, I decided that I would venture into transportation business. I observed that bike men were making cool cash. I spoke with some of them to know what delivery was. What I heard strengthened my resolve. I told someone who could give me a raise about my business plan. He promised to dash me the money. I was happy and I knew it was a done deal. However, I decided to pray about it. I asked God if he wanted me to venture into the business or not. I didn't get any direct answer from God. I paused on the execution of my plans and the session closed. When I returned for a new session, I was shocked to see buses bought by the school to transport students from the hostels to the main campus. I got the answer to my inquiry right there. Most bike men complained that since the buses started operating in school, business was not as it was.

There are times God may not speak to you for reasons best known to him. The silence of God doesn't mean that you're loved less or it is a result of sin. God is sovereign, you cannot put Him under pressure to speak. However, His leading is always on time. Sometimes, God uses circumstances to make His will known on a matter. If God had told me not to venture into bike business, I may not have listened to him. He knew that a time would come when the business would go down. From what I met on ground, I got the answer to my prayer of inquiry. God leads through circumstances. You need to be sensitive to God's leading in events and circumstances. A brother who had been trusting God for life partner was transferred to a city he didn't want to live in. However, God knew that his future wife was in that city and there was no way they would meet unless they live in the same city. This brother met his wife in the city of his posting and after the whole relationship was sealed, he returned to base.

That's how God works sometimes. He is the master of events and circumstances. The bible says, "The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delights in his way."(Psalms 37:23). God is so loving that He won't allow you enter into error IF you cooperate with him. In His mercy, if He speaks and you're in doubt or you disobey Him, he may arrange a Jonah-like event to fix you where you belong. Most times, when we try to influence events and circumstances, we distance ourselves from God's will. Pre-NYSC( National Youth Service Corps), I had the privilege of influencing my posting to Lagos or any other choice city but I allowed God to give me His own posting. Guess what! I met my wife in NYSC. Do not lobby your way out of God's will. If you've been praying for direction on a particular issue and it seems God is silent, be sensitive to the events and circumstances surrounding your life.

Action point

Father, I receive the grace to cooperate with you in Jesus name.
