Rom1:1 Paul, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, (B)separated to the gospel of God
In old Jewish tradition, there were servants and bond servants. Hebrew servants were to serve for six years and freed on the seventh year. If the slave was single at the time he served his master, he would return single even if his master got him a wife. If the slave love his master and he decided to serve his master forever, the master will present him before God and take him to the doorpost and pierce his ear. When that was done, such a slave will serve his master forever and his life's decisions, wife, children and property will belong to his master. In my understanding, the piercing of ear also could mean that such servant was bound to ear and obey his master forever. Those servants were called bond servants. Their whole life was controlled and directed by their master(Ex21:1-6). Bond servants don't have a will or life's plan except that of their master.
Apostle Paul called himself a bond servant in Romans1:1. As a Jew, he understood what he was saying. He was declaring that he was totally submitted to Christ and his cause. Bond servants do not say 'no' to their master and they do not seek to be freed because they are bound to serve and follow their master forever. Bond servants do not argue with their master neither do they impose their will on him. When a command is given, they obey to the letter even though it may be painful and uneasy. The Psalmist described Jesus' total surrender using the piercing of ear: "Sacrifice and offering you did not desire-- but my ears you have opened(pierced) -- burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not require."(Psalm40:5, Emphasis mine). The same was said of him in Hebrews 10:5. These scriptures point to one person(Christ) and his state of total surrender to the will of the father little wonder why he became the captain of our salvation and his name was exalted.
Only those that have signed off to be bond servants of Christ can have access to continuous direction. The reason why some have not been hearing God accurately is because they are full of themselves. They want to tell God what to do and get him to bless their choices instead of allowing Him to give them a direction on the way to go. God knows our hearts. He knows when we are sincere and when we are not. He knows His bond servants who are totally sold out to him. Many of us desire the exploits of Paul and want to operate like Christ on the earth but if we don't come under the yoke of bond servanthood, we'll keep telling their stories but will never replicate their exploits. God is looking for bond servants who will follow him till the end of time. Let him pierce your ear.
Father, pierce my ear. I am ready to follow you till the end of time, in Jesus name. Amen
