I cannot forget an incident that happened while in school. Our fellowship venue was in the indoor lawn tennis court in our residential estate. The seats were fixed in steps above one another just like what you see in stadia. During one of the services, I was praying with my eyes open and pacing the floor of the tennis court. I looked up into the crowd at an angle of elevation during prayers and I saw a lady that sat with her laps widely opened. I screamed and I began to blast in tongues because that was the least scenery I expected to see that day let alone in the house of God. Those who were around me thought I was deep in the Spirit because this happened during prayer session. My gentle prayer became confused and loud because of what I saw. Though i can laugh about the experience now but then, it was a physical attack on the sanity and purity of my mind.
The opening text was talking about Lot. We were told that he had carnal knowledge of his daughters (Gen19:30-38). Though he was drunk but it amazes me how a father would agree to sleep with his daughters. In his drunken state, he didn't slap a soldier neither did he fight the king of his land. The opening text answered my question on why he slept with his daughters. Peter said that Lot was corrupted in his soul because of the immoral things he saw and heard in his day. So we can say that before he slept with his daughters, his mind was already polluted and filled with immorality. His drunkenness only gave him the dutch courage to do what was in his heart. He must have seen and admired the immoral ladies of Sodom and Gomorrah but he lacked the courage to approach them for sex not until his daughters made themselves available.
The greatest sexual organ is the mind. The more you fill your mind with erotic scenes and you hear things that are immoral, sexual tension will build up in you. The next thing you'll be seeking for is where to unleash that tension. Some unleash sexual tension via rape, sexual abuse or masturbation. Whichever way, the root cause of every sexual misbehavior is in the mind. No matter how righteous, saintly, holy, consecrated and sanctified you are, the moment you feed your eyes with immoral junks and hear things that you shouldn't hear, mind pollution will set in. The world around us is not designed to help purify our minds but to pollute it. That's why marketers use sex appeal to advertise their products. The music and movies of this world are filled with pollutants. Even some t.v. programs have a strong sex appeal. This is the cure: "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."(Romans 12:2 KJV). Do away with whatever pollutes your mind. Watch what you watch and hear.
Father, I receive the grace to stay pure in this sexually impure world in Jesus name. Amen.
