In my early days as a believer, I desired that all my spiritual encounters should be spectacular. For instance, there were days I fasted and prayed for divine direction with the expectation that God would speak audibly. Sometimes, I wanted angelic appearance or a writing on the wall. It was common among the brethren to hold people with such spectacular spiritual experiences in high esteem. The way and manner some preachers present spectacular experiences creates unscriptural expectations in young believers. There are preachers that advocate for spectacular experiences.
If you've been praying to be baptized in the Holy Spirit, do not expect the Holy Spirit to come to you as a mighty rushing wind with cloven tongues of fire as it was on the day of Pentecost. He may have moved that way in the past, it doesn't mean that he would come like a wind and rest on people like a cloven tongues of fire every time. Some may tell you they felt a chill or an electrifying sensation all over their bodies but yours may happen without any sensation. There are people who have not received from God because they're in search of the spectacular. What matters to God is our faith in receiving whatever he has for us not the accompanying experiences.
Our desire should not be after spectacular experiences. That your salvation story doesn't sound like that of Paul doesn't invalidate your salvation. What matters is that you believed and confessed the Lordship of Christ and you accepted Him into your heart by faith not by spectacular experience. Since salvation is by faith, every other thing that is attached to salvation can be received by faith and nothing else. Some preachers don't believe God moved in a service because no one fell under the anointing. They neglect the transforming work of the Spirit in the hearts of the people. There is no rule that says you must fall under the anointing when hands are laid on you. It is not a rule that demons must scream during exorcism. The devil has acted drama in some churches and fooled the people with false manifestations.
