One of the leading fathers in the faith in Nigeria shared an experience about a lady that came to him for counseling. The Holy Spirit told him to hug the lady. That sounded strange to him because he hadn't heard such before but he knew the instruction was from God so he obeyed. The lady told him that she was planning to commit suicide after leaving his office but his action of hugging made her to rescind her earlier decision.
I want you to understand that the instruction he received was a personal instruction from God at that point in time to solve a problem not a general formula for solving all problems. Some insensitive folks may hear such instruction from God and start hugging service. Smith Wigglesworth ministered to a sick person by boxing the fellow. Kenneth E.Hagin did same. However, they didn't build on a doctrine on it neither did they start boxing service. The mistake we often make especially as ministers is to build a doctrine on our personal experience and encounters.
There are things God may instruct you to do for certain purposes but such instruction is for you personally not for general public. Apostle Paul said, "that I was caught up to paradise and heard things so astounding that they cannot be expressed in words, things no human is allowed to tell."(2 Corinthians 12:4 NLT). It is wrong to impose your personal encounters with God as a doctrine to be followed. There are personal revelations while some are for public consumption. As you walk with God, you need to be wise to be able to discern personal instructions from what should be made public.
