Gen 39:2 The Lord was with Joseph, so he succeeded in everything he did as he served in the home of his Egyptian master.NLT

TEST OF SERVICE

The story we often hear about Joseph is centred on his travails and final enthronement. It may not appeal to human reasoning to say that all he went through was permitted by God because of his sibling's treachery but the truth is God was not ignorant of all those things. When Joseph saw his brothers he acknowledged the fact that God sent him ahead: "But don’t be upset, and don’t be angry with yourselves for selling me to this place. It was God who sent me here ahead of you to preserve your lives" (Genesis 45:5 NLT). God preserved his life all through the time he was sold into slavery but God used that ocassion to run a test on him before establishing him in destiny." Until the time came to fulfill his dreams, the Lord tested Joseph’s character' (Psalms 105:19 NLT). That's the word of God.

One of the test Joseph passed through was the test of service. Joseph had a heart of service. You may say that he had no other option than to serve as a slave but I don't think that was the case. In Genesis 39:2-6, Potiphar made Joseph his chief administrative officer. He saw how diligent he was though he was a slave. If Joseph was cocky and not diligent in service, his master wouldn't have ranked him higher than others. Joseph could have told everyone why he shouldn't serve because of his dreams. He could have told them how the sun and moon bowed to him in his dream. Though he knew all of that but he served his way into destiny. In fact, I am of the opinion that he bowed severally to his boss, boss' wife and probably children. In slavery, his life does not look like his future. He served well and passed the test.

God may have given you a glimpse into your destiny. Your dream of greatness in ministry, business and your career cannot be realized until your serve. God may have told you that you will Pastor a church of 100,000. Part of the requirement may be to serve under a Pastor with less than 100members before getting your promotion. I am not talking about disloyal service. Divine promotion is for those that have served well. The test of service comes wearing different garments in disguise. Jesus himself said, "Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant"( Matthew 20:26). Service doesn't come easy most times. You may not be appreciated or supported. Those who ought to celebrate your loyalty may be your worst critics. Keep serving, you may be passing through a test, very soon the king would send for you.
