Luke 12:20 *“But God said to him, ‘You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get everything you worked for? NLT
In Luke 12:15, Jesus warned against covetousness. Jesus says this to the man who asked Him to settle the matter of property sharing between him and his brother but he refused. Jesus proceeds to tell the man the Parable of the Rich Fool. This person was materially blessed by God. As God continued to bless the man, instead of using his increase to further the will of God, all he was interested in was managing his increase and accumulating his growing wealth.
God's verdict on him was death. We can draw useful lessons from that parable. First, do not pursue wealth at the expense of eternity. "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?"(Mark8:36). We live in a world where the pursuit of money and material things has good publicity even from some pulpit. The street mantra now is, "I want to blow". In all your pursuit, what consideration do you have for eternity? God is more interested in your soul than your pocket.
Secondly, the Parable of the Rich Fool teaches that we are stewards of God's blessings not owner. God expect us to use wealth to advance his kingdom. "Give freely and become more wealthy; be stingy and lose everything"(Proverbs 11:24 NLT). Money in the hands of a devilish man would be used to propagate Satan's agenda. When you hear the news about terrorism, that's shows someone is using money to fund a cause he believe. As believers, we need to fund the cause of the gospel(Missions&Evangelism) if we truly believe it is worth it. If you are stingy, change your ways. Giving is the proof that you have conquered greed.
Father, I receive the grace to pursue the things of the kingdom and to be rich towards you in Jesus name.
