Phil 3:13 No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead,
FOCUS- THE SECRET OF "ONE"
Focus refers to the centre of interest of an individual or a group of persons. In becoming one person with remarkable exploit and impact, the power of focus is non negotiable. Apostle Paul knew he had an apostolic vision to reach the unreached places in his time especially among the Gentiles, he could have stayed in the rabbinical schools as a teacher of Jewish law or even as a Pastor over a congregation but because he had received a clear heavenly vision where life's purpose and assignment was delivered to him, he decided to be a man of one pursuit- apostolic ministry to the Gentiles. He went further to say, "No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, BUT I FOCUS ON THIS ONE THING: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead,", Phil3:13. No man living or dead who walked in God's plans and purposes was/is a man of two pursuit. It has always been on one thing.
Focus is setting your gaze on the pursuit and realization of the vision God gave you and not looking elsewhere. Jesus is a perfect example here. In John 6:15, we were told that they(Jews) wanted to make Jesus their king but he slipped away: "When Jesus saw that they were ready to force him to be their king, he slipped away into the hills by himself." Is it bad to be a king? Of course it is not bad or sinful to become a king especially during His days when Romans ruled oppressively. He could have used His celestial powers to get that done and fulfill Isaiahic prophecies like: "And the government shall be upon his shoulders" but He( Jesus) knew that His vision was not to become an earthly king and His government was not that which the Jews wanted at that time but to save mankind. When He came on the scene, in Luke 19:10, He declared His purpose for coming to the earth saying, "For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost”. That was His focus. Apostle Paul, speaking to the Corinthian believers in 1Cor1:17 said, "FOR CHRIST DIDN'T SEND ME TO BAPTIZE, BUT TO PREACH THE GOOD NEWS—..." Even though it is not bad to baptize people yet Paul said that was not his focus.
Catching a divine vision for life will help you to know the limit of your assignment but focus will help you to stay within that limit so that you can achieve that vision faster. Until you consistently focus on one thing, your world cannot focus on you. Don't be here today and there tomorrow, stay on your lane in destiny. Don't be a Pastor today and become an Evangelist tomorrow if you're not called to do so. Stop shifting lanes because there are so many people on the next lane. It may be a popular lane but it may not be your path. A Yoruba adage says 'you can't chase two rats and catch any of them because they won't run in the same direction.' Stop the pursuit of trends, make your path to trend. Focus on one vision rightly pursued is enough to make you leave your footprint in the sand of times.
Father, I receive the grace to stay focused on my assignment and not to be distracted in Jesus name.
