I told us previously how I was entangled in the web of immorality in my secondary school days. Aside the fact that I backslid and turned away from my Christian consecration, one thing that worked against my purity was my association and circle of influence back then in school. Though my background was solid from home and it is what you'll call a Christian background. We pray and hear God's word as a family every morning and we pray together at night as a family. We go to church regularly and engage in all the activities but I was influenced wrongly. Most of the guys around me whom the devil used as a trigger didn't have my kind of background. They succeeded in influencing me wrongly. Not only that, i remember that those days, there was a man who motivated me in unrighteousness. He knew my girlfriend and he helped strengthen the cord of our sinful relationship. You know young people love anyone that act like godfather for immorality. That is who the man was to me and the girl then. That's the power of association.
In your quest for sexual purity, you need to watch your association. If you move with those who don't value sexual purity, they may infect you with their lifestyle and sooner than you think, you'll find yourself doing what you didn't want to do. I noticed that those that are sexually immoral rarely do it alone. Often, they have a circle of evil encouragers. When Amnon was infatuated with Tamar, he didn't know how to go about it but he had a shrewd friend in Jonadab who counseled him on what to do to get Tamar to bed(2 Sam 13). I watched pornography because I had friends and older ones who watched porn. The first time I was introduced to porn, someone older sent me to get him a blue film(as we call it back then). I asked around and a girl was recommended to me. She promised to get me a porn video and she gave a VHS cassette. When we watched it, the video wasn't pornography. She was ignorant. This big brother still insisted I get him raw porn. Till that time, i didn't know what it was. The day I watched porn, no one needed to tell me the difference between fake and original. From that day, a demon entered me and I found myself hungry for more of pornography not until when Jesus came to deliver me. I'm only trying to explain the power of association.
Evaluate your association and be sure it is in line with your desire for sexual purity. Apostle Paul knew how infectious this sin is, that's why he said, "I meant that you are not to associate with anyone who claims to be a believer yet indulges in sexual sin, or is greedy, or worships idols, or is abusive, or is a drunkard, or cheats people. Don’t even eat with such people."(1Cor 5:11). Paul, the apostle of grace spoke sternly against associating with immoral people. If you are walking on the path of sexual purity and your friends are sexually active, you're the next in line. As married folks, if your friends are engaged in extra marital affairs, they are already mentoring you for the same thing. You must break certain associations intentionally and relate with those who have kingdom values of sexual purity.
I refuse to be hunted, dominated and conquered on the bed of sexual immorality in the name of Jesus. I receive grace to conquer every demonic agent like Delilah sent on a mission to my life in Jesus name. My destiny and glory is preserved in Jesus name.
