IMPORTANT AND URGENT TASK

2 Tim4:2 Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.

After returning from an evening crusade meeting in one of the villages where we went for outreach, the presiding missionary told me about the death of a brother who gave his life to Christ in Oteyi Olokuta when we came for an outreach. This young man drowned in the river while helping someone to move some goods on boat. A storm arose and they jumped into the river but he couldn't swim so he drowned. His lifeless body was found in another village three days later. I remember bathing with some brethren in the same river when we went there for an outreach. When I heard the news, I was sad. I can still picture this young man and his imagery is imprinted on my heart.

The good aspect of that sad story is that he gave his life to Christ before he died. Imagine we had not obeyed the prompting to go and preach, he may have died without giving his life to Christ. Immediately I heard about the incident, I knew within that he was the reason God sent us to that village. The work of soulwinning is important and urgent. Your obedience to the prompting in your heart to preach the Gospel may be someone's last chance to hear about the saviour. Sometimes I wonder why believers lack the zeal to preach the Gospel. One of the things I realize is that not many believers believe that a man without Christ is doomed for eternal destruction. We don't see the severity of hell the way the bible paint it.

In time management, we classify some tasks as important and urgent. That suggest to us that some task are urgent but not important and vice versa. Time managers told us to focus on those tasks that are urgent and important. In all that God has committed into our hands, the work of soul winning is urgent and important. There are men and women on death row unknown to us. God is giving them a last chance to hear about the redemptive power of His son so that they can decide their eternity but He need someone who will go and preach the word to them. Don't ignore that prompting in your heart to preach in the bus, at bus stops, on the street and to witness to people one-on-one.
