Proverbs 6:32-33 But the man who commits adultery is an utter fool, for he destroys himself. He will be wounded and disgraced. His shame will never be erased. NLT
SHAME AND WOUND
Anytime king Solomon speaks especially on bedroom matters, I think it is wise to listen. He's a professor in that department. He learnt from his father what the consequences of sexual immorality are and from his own personal experience, he garnered a lot of experience on this subject. In the opening text, he revealed to us a new dimension of consequences that comes with sexual immorality: Shame and wound. David is our prime example here. After committing sexual sin with Bathsheba which led him to kill Uriah the husband so that he can cover up his sin, God's anger was kindled against him greatly and the pronouncements of prophet Nathan were heavy in his life.
2Sam 12: 10- 11 "Now, therefore, the sword will never depart from your house, because you despised me and took the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your own."This is what the LORD says: `Out of your own household I am going to bring calamity upon you. Before your very eyes I will take your wives and give them to one who is close to you, and he will lie with your wives in broad daylight.". Do you know that in David's life time, this evil pronouncements came to pass? Absalom, son of David, slept with his father's concubines on top of a roof for everyone to see (2 Sam16:22). This is shameful, disgraceful and heart rendering. This shameful record can never be erased in the history of David and his lineage little wonder why Solomon said in the opening text that the shame of a sexually immoral person will never be erased. Sometimes, the devil always factor in a lifetime shame for those that are sexually immoral. Imagine a married woman or man caught in adultery with images&video posted on the internet or a preacher enmeshed in serial sex scandals?
I have found Solomon's assertion to be true. Most people who have had a sexual scandal of some sort either in the distant past or recently always have shame trailing behind them anywhere their name is mentioned. Even when they do exploits, the reporters will find a slot for their shame in the report. When you go on the internet to check names of people( esp preachers) who once had a sex scandal, one way or the other, their sexual sin will be mentioned. While God forgives and forget sexual sin just like other sins immediately after repentance is sought for, experience has shown that humans hardly forget. I was talking to a denominational leader sometimes ago. In our conversation, there was a pastor who would have been recommended for a higher assignment in their church but because of his past sexual scandals, he was disqualified. They made it a rule in their church that whoever have had a scandal will never be their supreme spiritual leader. Though personally, I think that's too harsh because if he has genuinely repented and forgiven by God, he is like every other person who has never had a scandal but mankind hardly forgets such. That's the reproach that comes with sexual immorality. While it seems your secret is covered and you're getting away with your sexscapades in secret, the devil is planning to uncover it in a shameful way so that you won't recover in a lifetime. Satan may not stop a man from climbing the ladder of greatness if he sees that his appetite for sex is uncontrolled. The moment he gets to the top, he'll bring the person down and put a label of shame on him. The works of the flesh( esp sexual immorality) that travel with men to the top is what brings them down eventually. This is part of what the enemy is planning. God is calling you and me to a life of purity. Check that thing you call "weakness" now and allow God deal with it before it fetches shame and wound for you.
I refuse to be hunted, dominated and conquered on the bed of sexual immorality in the name of Jesus. I receive grace to conquer every demonic agent like Delilah sent on a mission to my life in Jesus name. My destiny and glory is preserved in Jesus name.
