Genesis 38:18 And he said, What pledge shall I give thee? And she said, Thy signet, and thy bracelets, and thy staff that is in thine hand. And he gave it her, and came in unto her, and she conceived by him. KJV
THE SIGNET, BRACELETS AND SCEPTRE
There's a story of great importance in Genesis 38 that is highly relevant to our discuss. It is the story of Judah's sexual engagement with his daughter in-law. Without going into much details about processes and events, he had intercourse with his daughter-in-law who disguised like a prostitute. The lady asked for three items that were of great importance before she allowed Judah to sleep with her: Signet, bracelet and sceptre/ staff. These three items are symbolic and no one in his/ her right senses would give them out but Judah did because of sexual pleasure. What is the significance of a signet, bracelet& staff?
The ancients used signets to mark their possessions and to sign contracts. It is a person's signature. Ancient kings used signet rings to designate authority, honour, or ownership. A signet contained an emblem unique to the king. Official documents were sealed with a dollop of soft wax impressed with the king’s signet, usually kept on a ring on his finger. Such a seal certified the document as genuine, much like a notary public’s stamp today. A scepter is a ceremonial staff, often used by kings. With its jewels and ornamentation, a scepter is a symbol of power. The bracelet is an ornament of beauty. If we'll interpret and adapt these symbolic objects properly, we can say that Judah lost authority and honour(signet), beauty( bracelet) and power to rule( staff) all because of sexual pleasure.
The bible didn't record that story without a didactic purpose. The purpose is to teach us what anyone stand to lose on the bed of sexual immorality: Authority and honour, beauty and power. Samson lost all of these after engaging Delilah, Reuben lost thesame because he slept with his father's concubine, David lost these things temporarily because he coveted another man's wife. Satan knows these secrets and even more and that's why he strategically use the bait of immorality against anyone who is on the path to greatness in the kingdom. Among occult, sex is a tool of initiation, worship and capturing their prey. I once met two men who told me they lost their ministry and anointing to sexual immorality. They described how God worked with them in the past but at the time of talking to me, there was no beauty, authority, honour or power in their lives. They knew something left them. That's a pitiable condition for anyone who was once up there. It is only those that lack understanding about these things that will give in easily and cheaply because they lack in-depth knowledge and understanding about the dangers involved. In a world where people see illicit sex as fun and sport, the devil will have a field day and free course in the lives of people to steal, kill and destroy. God is calling all of us to a life of sexual purity. Knowing what you stand to lose, will you continue or repent? The choice is yours. I pray that you won't be a victim of the enemy's onslaught against men and women of destiny in Jesus name.
I refuse to be hunted, dominated and conquered on the bed of sexual immorality in the name of Jesus. I receive grace to conquer every demonic agent like Delilah sent on a mission to my life in Jesus name. My destiny and glory is preserved in Jesus name.
