1 Cor 4:2 Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful.

THE VALUE OF STEWARDSHIP

The house of John Wesley got burnt. Fire razed it down and the ruins were visible. A man told John Wesley that his house was on fire. John Wesley replied by saying, "No. The Lord's house has burned to the ground. That means one less responsibility for me." John Wesley understood the principle of stewardship. He understood that he was just a steward, manager of God's resources not the owner of it. In the New Testament books, the word “steward” is rooted in the Greek word “oikonomos,” which means “the manager of a household." A Christian owns nothing, we are only stewards of the resources that God has put in our care including money. Stewardship is the acceptance of our managerial responsibility from God that we are not owners of anything in this world - including our lives. Life is a trust given to us and we shall account for it.

Kingdom minded people do not see anything as theirs that's why they don't boast about ownership of material things neither do they live for a show. They don't go on social media to display wealth and tell the world about their newly acquired machine( cars). They don't personalize ownership because they know God owns it all. This is kingdom attitude towards money and material things or else we'll be consumed by vain pursuit. Stewards do not find it hard to give because they know the owner can demand for what belongs to him anything. Your struggle in giving is because you have a possessive attitude instead of an attitude of a steward. We live in an era where false teachers are teaching people to "eat" their money and resources instead of using it to further the cause of the kingdom. I know that the crusade against giving to support kingdom cause arose because of phony preachers who milk God's people dry because of their pocket and turn the offering plate to a money vending machine. They commercialize the Gospel and merchandise the grace of God. I know all of these has happened and is still happening.

However, this shouldn't make you turn a blind eye against genuine kingdom causes because not all preachers are greedy. More so, if you're led by the Spirit, you'll know where, what and how to give what God entrusted in your care. My mentor told a story of the honorarium (N200,000) he received after a ministration. Shortly after he left, his host called him that God instructed him to make it up to a million naira. He kept that money for two weeks asking the Holy Spirit what he should do with the money. He was instructed to purchase a vehicle for the Pastor that joined him in holy matrimony. He added a few thousands to the money and he acted as instructed. Now, that's a man who understands stewardship. He knew the money wasn't his so he enquired from the real owner how he should disburse it. The early church understood this, that was why they gave all to the Lord when he demanded for it including their lives. They were ready to go anywhere for the Lord even in the face of stiff oppositions and persecution. They were sold out to God. Know that what you're holding back( your life inclusive) doesn't belong to you, give it to the owner.
