THE VALUE OF SEEKING DIVINE DIRECTION

We live in the age of false knowledge, self help and human permutations. This is the age where some preachers are beginning to tell people they don't need God's direction always on life's issues always especially marriage. Times without number, I have heard some believers( preachers inclusive) say that God is not involved in the choice of a life partner. They hold the view that the Spirit of God need not lead anyone on the choice of whom to marry since we have liberty to choose whoever we like based on our parameters and take it to God for endorsement. I see a people who tacitly draw lines for the Holy Spirit in their lives and are sense ruled instead of being Spirit led. God loves and value when His children come asking for direction on how to go about life's issues. Old timers in the faith have a culture of "seeking God's face"( as they say) before taking major steps. They don't gamble with their lives like many are doing today.

If divine direction is of no value, God wouldn't have promised to lead us as He did in Psalms 32:8 saying, "I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye." When Jesus was about leaving the earth, in His last days, He promised the apostles( and believers by extension) that the Holy Spirit will come to lead and guide us into all truths( no aspect of our lives is excluded): "When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future."(John16:13). The scriptures cited so far underscore the importance of being led by the Spirit. God is interested in every area of our lives and He is more than willing to direct us and clear our confusion. How can we call God a loving father yet will be uninterested in helping us out in making right decisions about life? That doesn't describe the God I've read about severally in my bible. Under the old covenant, he said to the people: "Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not."Jeremiah 33:3 KJV. If God can give this promise to those under the old covenant, those who weren't partaker of the grace of Christ, how much more you and me that are washed and cleansed by the precious blood of Christ?

Being led by the Spirit is one of the proofs of our sonship: "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God."( Romans 8:14 KJV). The man that will receive clear instructions and directions from God must be a man who is seeking for it and is willing to obey God. The key to hearing God clearly is to empty yourself of human ideas and ways. God will not direct you until He sees that your heart is totally empty of self devised schemes. As disciples of Christ, we value taking orders from above before marching forward. There's nothing that beats being in the will of God in all areas of your life. Make it a lifestyle to always ask God on which way to go and never take steps until you've heard from him. In life, it is better to be slow and right than to be fast in the wrong direction. Speed is only meaningful in the right direction but meaningless in the wrong direction. The way to getting it right is to seek God's direction always. God's leading is always available for those that are willing to be led not those that trust in the wisdom and schemes of man.
