When i studied the current happenings in our nation at the time of writing this devotional, I observed that the devil has made so many believers to be weary about interceding for the nation. Quite of a number of those who were eagerly praying for the nation have lost hope and have joined those who speak negatively about the nation. When intercessors begin to say what everyone is saying, they repudiate their prayers of yesteryears. The daily bad news that filters through national t.v.and social media is the enemy's plan to make us feel God is not interested in our nation any more and to weaken our faith. The devil will make the worst happen in our dear nation if we stop praying.
In every nation, God has posted watchmen there for the purpose of praying night and day. Today, God's children are the watchmen posted to salvage their nation from the claws of wickedness in the place of prayer. While I agree with the school of thought that doing the right thing at all strata of leadership is what we need to build a great nation, we shouldn't deny the place of continuous intercession for our dear nation. Everything has its place. We often compare ourselves with nations that aren't as prayerful as we are yet they are prospering. We fail to realize that what they are enjoying is the prayer labour of their fore fathers who spent hours in prayer just to see a better nation. Don't also forget their rich history of revivals, awakenings and Reformation. The impact of these events has lasted centuries and outlived their forebears. Unlike nations with idolatrous roots and demonic covenants.
In Psalm122:6, the bible says, "Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee." Our Jerusalem is our own dear country in this case and we must arise and pray. At this point in our national history, prayer for the nation should be relentless. The word of the Lord says, 'Give the Lord no rest until he completes his work, until he makes Jerusalem the pride of the earth".(Isaiah 62:7 NLT). Until our dear nation becomes the pride of the earth where everyone would like to visit or relocate to, we shouldn't stop praying. You are the watchman posted by God to pray for your nation. Intercessors will not come from another planet, God's children must make it a point of duty to pray for their nation even when it seems all is getting worse.
Father, I receive the grace to pray for my nation at all times in Jesus name.
