Acts 2:1-2 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. KJV
A PLACE OF ENCOUNTER
One thing that characterized the upper room experience was the encounter the early believers had with the Holy Ghost. The upper room was where the Holy Spirit came fully upon the church, it was a definite experience that changed the course of church history. They stayed in that room till the promise of the father came: "On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about."(Acts1:4). In expectation of what God promised them, they waited patiently until there was an outpouring.
The bible says, "And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance"(Acts 2:3-4). While we may not have the physical upper room in our various homes, one thing we must have is the upper room heart. That's the heart that is drawn to God's presence. The early apostles experienced the outpouring of the Spirit not only because it was promised but because their hearts were positioned for that encounter. There are things God has promised but will only deliver to those with a upper room heart- those whose hearts and attitudes are positioned for an encounter.
Our generation can experience greater dimensions of the Spirit than the people of yore if only we have the heart and attitude of upper room Christians. The Azusa revival was born out of upper room hearts, men and women who prayed all night continuously sometimes putting their heads in crates of egg all because they wanted to see God's glory. Supper room believers are always asking for their own glory to be seen instead of asking for God's glory to manifest in the lives of men. I'm yet to see a supper room Christian who had a definite encounter with God. They prey on encounters of others for personal benefit. They are fond of what "papa" said than what God said because they're not close to Him. Quit living your spiritual life on another man's encounter. God is ready to reveal Himself to you. The key to that spiritual encounter with God is to have a upper room heart.
Father, I refuse to be a supper room Christian. My heart is set on kingdom matters and I'll pray about them henceforth in Jesus name.
