LIVING PURE IN A SEX CRAZY WORLD Pt.1

UNDERSTANDING 'PORNEIA'

I was introduced to sexual immorality as a teenager while in secondary school. It was our way of catching fun, like a sport among the boys. We patronized prostitutes and whenever we return to school the next day, we discussed how the whole event went. Girls of our age were deemed small because we were engaging the "big girls". Our sexual appetites were drawn towards matured ladies. Pornography fueled this partly. One of my colleagues in class would always see me off to the brothel at night, he normally stay outside but he never entered. Funnily, he was a Muslim seeing off a pastor's son to the house of prostitutes, glory slayers. Whenever I look back at those awful days of my life, I feel pained that I ever did such evil. Sometimes, i feel i lost something on the bed of immorality that i should recover. I thank God for His deliverance and salvation. All around the world, sexual immorality has become the norm even among clergies. The vow of celibacy among priests has been broken by some because a vow cannot stop the excesses of a polluted mind that is not transformed. The sex drive of some persons can drive a truck, they are burning under almost always.

God is calling everyone of us into sexual purity in this sex crazy world where seduction and sex appeal is used to advertise good&services. Rev Olusola Areogun said, "You are not pure until you are sexually pure". I cannot agree less. What is "porneia"? In the opening text, the Greek "Porneia" is the word rendered as "fornication". It should be rendered as "sexual immorality" instead of fornication because in English language, fornication refers to sexual intercourse between unmarried people. Apostle Paul didn't limit sexual sin to the unmarried. He was warning against all forms of sexual immorality either between same sex, singles or married, incest,list, prostitution, bestiality and other forms of bizarre sexual practices. The revered apostle was telling his readers that the will of God for them is to be sanctified and that sanctification is to be expressed through abstinence from "porneia"- all forms of sexual immorality.

To those trapped in the cocoon of sexual immorality, it always appear as if it is impossible to break free. It seems as if the power of emotions is stronger than the power of the will to say no. As a matter of fact, some may be hearing ten messages on holiness and still be having sex right there either in their minds or physically because of their crazy drive that has spiraled out of control. I am here to tell you that no matter how bad your case may be, God will deliver you. The very first thing I want you to settle on your heart is this: "It is God's will for me to abstain from sexual immorality and to live pure in a sex crazy world". It is very possible.
