1Sam 30:6 David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the LORD his God.
One morning, I was in my bathroom in the mood of fellowship. I found myself telling God, "I'll go for you". Prior to that time, I was discouraged about everything called ministry, my heart had become so weary to the point where bible study and prayer became boring to me. Sometimes, we feel like this. I don't like to form spiritual macho. I've had to cry at some point and it helped me greatly. You may not like that but that's me. I discovered that the only thing left of me was the public reputation of being a minister but the passion and zeal within was lost. In a nutshell, my soul became weary but I was revived and encouraged by the Spirit of God and I found myself telling God, "I'll go for you".
Sometimes, in the pursuit of your God-given assignment, discouragement may come. If you're discouraged at one point or the other, you're not the first and you won't be the last. Do you know prophet Elijah in the bible? He was the fire spitting and Baal slaying prophet. In Jewish history, Moses and Elijah are two great prophetic figures the Jews revere. Little wonder why they appeared to the disciples at the mount of transfiguration. In the course of His assignment, he was discouraged as recorded in 1 Kings 19:4 "while he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness. He came to a broom bush, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, LORD,” he said. “Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors”. Can you imagine the powerful prophet asking God to kill him. He compared himself with his ancestors and scored himself low. That was how bad his level of discouragement was.
Discouragement comes to our hearts for several reasons. Chiefly, the devil is behind discouragement for anyone that is on course in destiny. The day you sign up for the kingdom, the fiery darts of discouragement will be fired at you. Sometimes, you'll find yourself between the highs and lows. Whenever you're discouraged, learn to rebuke the devil. In James 4:7, the bible says, "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." The moment of life when everything seems dark and standstill, just know the enemy is somewhere at the corner with his dirty dozens. The devil knows you're a threat to his kingdom and his programs here on earth. He'll fight tooth and nail to make you rescind on your decision. May you find strength in God daily to say, "Lord, I'll go for you".
Father, I receive the inner strength to withstand discouragement. Lord, I'll go for you wherever you send me, anywhere, any day anytime, in Jesus name. Amen
